Kate’Lyn Chetty has just completed an MA in Fine Art at the University of Johannesburg. She is a printmaker as well as a paper maker. She uses materials that have strong connotations to her family and their history in her paper. “I am currently exploring political influences on both documentary and family photography," she says of her studies. "My work is centred around my family’s experience while they lived in Sawoti, a farming community, during apartheid.” Her use of old family photographs ensures that there is a level of respect and care that is shown in her manipulations of the materials. She is registered for a Postgraduate certificate in Education and hopes to one day share knowledge that has previously been omitted from current curriculum.
